ABOUT THE PROJECT

FAR PAX is a cross-border initiative that promotes sustainable development by promoting the Bastioned Fortresses of the Border Region. These structures, once military, are now symbols of peace, cooperation, and shared identity between Portugal and Spain.

This project seeks to respond to concrete challenges such as:

  • The physical deterioration of the fortresses;

  • Limited accessibility;

  • Lack of infrastructure and heritage interpretation;

  • Need for tourism promotion and community involvement.

OBJECTIVES

FAR PAX proposes a Joint Development Strategy based on Cultural Heritage, which includes:

  • Innovation:

    • Asset monitoring systems;

    • Strategy for the joint conservation and enhancement of strengths.

  • Rehabilitation and Works:

    • Restoration and improvement of visiting spaces;

    • Physical interventions and “Heritage Fields”.

  • Awareness and Training:

    • Activities with local communities;

    • Training of technicians and professionals.
